The privatisation and deregulation of corporations and hitherto government owned companies have resulted in increased entrepreneurial initiatives.
It is obvious that Nigeria has a trade and commerce inclined economy, where business activities (buying and selling of goods) are of high intensity. These goods are regarded in postal parlance as parcels. Also, the high volume of goods which are constantly being generated require an attendant need for evacuation from one part of the country to another. It was on this consideration, that the Management of NIPOST deemed it fit to create a Parcel Service Venture.
The Parcel Post Venture was formally established, by the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) in November, 2004; an indication of the Management's apparent commitment to re-position the hitherto moribund parcel product for greater financial accretion and operational efficiency. This goes a long way in addressing the problems hitherto experienced in the general parcel delivery system, in order to enhance the socio-economic needs and aspirations of the various classes of our highly esteemed customers.
