CONDITIONS OF PARCEL ACCEPTANCE

It is note-worthy to state categorically here that parcels are accepted on the various counters of our Post Offices on some conditions like:-

(i)  POSTED AGAINST INSPECTION This simply means that all parcels meant for conveyance through the Post must be subjected to inspection of content by officials of the Post and other officials of the Customs, NDLEA, Ministry of Agriculture etc. Objectively, this inspection becomes necessary to prevent contraband/prohibited items e.g. narcotics, decomposed food items etc from being sent through the Post.

(ii) SPECIAL PACKAGING This is expected on parcels like glass, fatty substances, liquid, dry colouring powders, dry non-colouring powders, live bees, leeches etc.

(iii) PACKAGING Proper wrapping/packaging of items or goods is needed before a parcel is accepted for posting. Hence, the Counter Officers have to ensure that parcel items are properly wrapped and packaged to prevent endangering the health of officials and also for protection against minor changes in climate, temperature or, in the case of conveyance by air, variation in atmospheric pressure.
